What is AGENTS.md and why do you need it?

AGENTS.md is a machine-readable contract file for an AI agent: its role, tools, KPIs, escalation rules and hard-block. An Anthropic convention for Claude Code, extended to agentic systems. Without it, an agent loses predictability when tasks change.
